Lourdes is the only countertop machine here with independent laboratory reports you can open. Masa International in Kyoto measured total hydrogen output at 134.2 mL/min under test MM03-6024-01, and Japan Food Research Laboratories, accredited by the Japanese government, found no phthalates, adipates or metals in the water it produces.
Read what those reports cover. The Masa test certifies gas output in millilitres per minute. The 1.6 mg/L dissolved figure is still Lourdes’ own. Both matter, and they are not the same measurement, which is a distinction almost no page in this category bothers to make.
The design reason to care is the separate chamber. Electrolysis splits water into hydrogen and oxygen, and a machine that keeps them together dissolves the byproducts back into what you drink. The Hydrofix vents them instead. It also runs an inhalation mode, which no other countertop unit here does at any price.
Suits a household of one or two who will run it daily. Thirty minutes for 1.8 litres is fine for that and frustrating above it, and the one-year warranty is the shortest on this page when Echo covers five to ten years.

Warranty length is worth reading closely. Electrodes degrade, and the number of years a brand will stand behind them is the most honest signal it gives about how long the machine keeps working. Ten years is a real commitment. Nothing else here comes close.
The catch is money and plumbing. At $3,595 it costs more than the next three machines combined, and under-sink installation is a plumbing job rather than something you unbox and plug in. Buy it for household throughput, not because the concentration is higher, because it is not.

The H2 is the Echo most people should look at first. It sits on the counter, needs no plumbing work, and does the same core job as the Ultimate for half the money. Echo publishes up to 1.5 mg/L, and the warranty runs five years.
The Ultimate’s extra water types are the feature that separates them, and most households never use them. If you want hydrogen water and nothing else, the difference between these two machines is about $1,800 for capability you may never touch.
It is still hard to place. At $1,795 it produces less than the Lourdes Hydrofix, which costs $300 less, and countertop rivals at a third of the price exist. It earns its money on the five-year warranty and Echo’s support rather than on output.

Piurify publishes 4,100 ppb, which is more than twice what any countertop machine on this page claims, from a 300 ml bottle costing a fraction as much. If the figure holds, it is the best value here by a distance.
We cannot tell you whether it holds. There is no third-party test published, and Piurify does not name a laboratory. That puts it in the same position as most of this category: a number with a brand behind it and nothing else. The lifetime warranty is unusual and does suggest some confidence in the hardware.
We do not own this one, which is why there is no photograph of it in a kitchen anywhere on this site. Two more things to weigh: Piurify’s own pages list it at both $129.99 and $159.99, and 300 ml is a glass rather than a household supply.

It is also the clearest illustration of something odd about this category. The $269 bottle publishes roughly five times the concentration of the $3,595 machine. Price buys you volume, warranty and convenience. It does not buy you hydrogen.
The limits are real. A single-serve bottle cannot supply a household, and dissolved hydrogen escapes quickly once you open it, so the number on the label is the moment of production rather than the moment you drink. What we liked

- Open-plate electrolysis produces far lower dissolved hydrogen than SPE/PEM machines
The K8 is here because people ask about it, not because we recommend it. Enagic sells it through multi-level marketing at $5,480 before tax, which is several thousand dollars above comparable ionizers with similar plate counts.
It is also a different machine from everything else on this page. The K8 is an alkaline water ionizer using eight platinum-dipped titanium plates. Open-plate electrolysis produces far less dissolved hydrogen than the SPE/PEM membrane machines above, and Enagic publishes no dissolved-hydrogen figure at all.
If you want alkaline water, it is a durable machine with a wide service network. If you want hydrogen, almost everything else on this page delivers more of it for less money.
Best hydrogen water machine by budget
Under $300 buys a portable hydrogen water generator whose output an outside laboratory has verified. Between $300 and $1,500 buys a pitcher or an entry countertop unit that serves two people. Above $1,500 you are paying for household throughput and a longer warranty, not for higher hydrogen concentration - the cheapest product on this page has the highest published output, and the only certificate.

Machine or bottle: which should you buy?
Buy a bottle if you drink hydrogen water alone and spend under $150 a year on it. Buy a machine if your household drinks two litres a day or more, where a bottle’s single-serve cycle becomes the bottleneck. Cost per litre crosses over around the 18-month mark for a two-person household.
